A 22-year-old Alabama man pleaded guilty to extortion, cyberstalking, and computer fraud charges after hijacking the social media accounts of hundreds of young women (including minors) over a three-year period. Which means he started when he was either 18 or 19. He impersonated the targets’ friends and used other tactics to trick his victims into handing over account recovery codes and passwords, then used the stolen credentials to take control of their Snapchat, Instagram, and other social media accounts. Another guy also pleaded guilty to hacking nearly 600 women’s Snapchat accounts using social engineering to steal private nude photos that he later sold or traded online. Yeesh!
