Han says Lai willing to give state of the nation address at Legislative Yuan

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) said Monday that President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has agreed to deliver a state of the nation address at the legislature following a tea meeting with the heads of the five branches of government.
Han said the address would adopt a unified question-and-answer format as a matter of courtesy, and the legislature would treat the arrangement with special importance, per CNA. He added that the meeting set a positive precedent, demonstrating that even amid intense political confrontation, there remains a constructive and humane side to politics.
Han said the legislature is currently reviewing numerous bills and budget proposals closely watched by Lai, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), and other branch heads, particularly the central government’s general budget and a special budget for arms procurement. He advised the president to use wisdom and patience to defuse conflicts and resolve misunderstandings, especially amid tensions between the ruling and opposition parties.
Han said he invited Lai to address lawmakers on Taiwan’s current situation, key domestic and external concerns, and priorities for the next legislative session. ‘President Lai gladly accepted and is willing to come to the Legislative Yuan to deliver a state of the nation address,’ Han said.
He added that, based on the president’s wishes, he will explain the plan to the caucuses of the three political parties. Once all three caucuses reach a consensus, the legislature will formally invite Lai to deliver the address.
Han expressed hope that in the new year, all branches and sectors will unite and work together so Taiwan remains optimistic in the Year of the Horse, delivers strong results, and reassures the public.
