A video showcasing an unusual kitchen seating design has gone viral on TikTok. The video was posted by @springcreekrevival on January 14 and has garnered 6.3 million views. The clip features bar stools that hang from the kitchen counter and swing outward, rather than being supported by individual legs on the floor. In the video, a close‑up shot shows the stools tucked neatly beneath the counter as a voiceover explains the appeal of the design. ‘Don’t you love the hanging bar stools, it’s one of my favorite things,’ the voice says. She demonstrates how the chairs move, adding that they ‘just kinda’ swing it out…and it keeps your bar stools from ending up all over the house.’ The caption shared with the post adds another practical advantage, reading: ‘These are the best with kids too! So easy to vacuum under too.’ Anderson told Newsweek: ‘When I saw this house come on the market, I knew I had to go see it—little did I know my husband and I would end up falling in love with the place and buying it! The kitchen is original and untouched since it was built in 1985, and so the bar stools were the previous owners’ choice when they had the house custom-built.’ The company that originally installed these chairs confirmed to Anderson that ‘each chair can safely hold up to 350lbs. So, each set/pair can hold 700lbs,’ she told Newsweek. ‘They are attached to steel beams that run underneath the countertop, down the backside of the cabinet and along the floor under the footrest. They are sturdy and safe.’ Anderson noted: ‘We have no plans to remove or replace them, we both have grandparents who had these same barstools and loved the nostalgic feeling.’ She added: ‘As a realtor I see a lot of properties, and too many of the homes built today look the same. I love the unique and super functional features of old custom homes—there are actually several custom features in this house.’ The viral clip comes at a time when home renovation spending in the United States has surged, according to a survey by Houzz, the home design website. The survey reported that the median renovation spend increased by 60 percent, rising from $15,000 in 2020 to $24,000 in 2023. According to the survey, kitchens remain the most commonly renovated interior room, with 29 percent of homeowners undertaking kitchen projects. Guest bathrooms and primary bathrooms followed closely, at 27 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Living room renovations were also popular, reported by around 21 percent of homeowners. The median spend for kitchen and primary bathroom projects rose in 2022 and increased again in 2023—’by 20 percent and 11 percent, reaching $24,000 and $15,000, respectively,’ the report said. Despite the creator’s enthusiasm, many TikTok viewers were skeptical of the hanging bar stools, questioning how much weight they could safely support. User @dawnabell19 wrote: ‘no, not at all,’ while @justkeepswimming commented: ‘looks like a lot of repairs in the future.’ Megan added: ‘I love them but I don’t trust them. Lol.’ Others echoed similar concerns. @appletun842 said: ‘They’re gorgeous but I’d never sit there.’ User @fancyford52 commented: ‘sorry It’s throwing MacDonald vibe’s.’ Questions about safety and durability were common. @chronicallyrabid asked: ‘Is there a weight limit? I’d be scared I’d sit down too hard and break it.’ User sqwance wrote: ‘Two chairs attached to counter top ain’t no way that’s holding the weight of two people at same time.’ Meanwhile, Roberto summed up his hesitation by saying: ‘I’m 300 lbs, I’ll be standing out of fear lol.’ … Do you have a
